A New Modulation Technique to Improve the Power Loss Division Performance of the Multilevel Inverters

Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have offered significant contributions toward the implementation of energy conversion units used in industry and renewable applications. However, switching devices MLIs are associated with power loss division problems. The pulsewidth modulation (PWM) techniques greatly influence peak, average, ripple values device junction temperature. Thermal tension may be raised due to increased caused by additional or uneven distribution losses unbalanced gate pulses. Higher thermal stress accelerates life degradation process devices, and, eventually, leads permanent damage MLI. Therefore, a new balancing two-pole clamped PWM technique for single-phase MLI is proposed this article. In technique, each half line cycle, symmetrical equal duration nonswitching zone placed on two reference signals alternately. Due clamping action, pulses become balanced after cycle. extends reliability improving performance temperature characteristics. Moreover, reduction neutral point potential swing reduces output total harmonic distortion. improved validated simulation MATLAB/Simulink experimental results from downscale laboratory prototype test platform.
